Josip Drmic first found his way into the upper echelons of the rumour-mill a month ago, when former German international Lothar Matthaus said the 21-year-old Swiss front-man would be an Arsenal player and that his wife was currently house-hunting in London.
Those claims were later dismissed by the player when he revealed he was not even married! Although he did go on to say it would be a dream to play for a club like Arsenal.
Not long after, Bayer Leverkusen were linked with Drmic, but their sporting director Rudi Voller quickly dismissed claims of a pre-contract agreement in an interview with Sport Bild, although, as was becoming the pattern, he did admit his admiration for the player.
So it seemed, at least from the outside, that two clubs were heading the queue for the exciting Nuremberg striker who has 16 goals in 30 league games to date. But now Bundesliga journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has potentially dashed Arsenal's hopes with a somewhat cryptic tweet.
"I am in Leverkusen. We were told Drmic may be going to Arsenal. Here I get told he is coming to Leverkusen. To be continued," Fjortoft wrote.
So it seems the mystery remains around a player who would reportedly cost in the region of just €7million - a potential bargain given his age and talent.
And before Gunners fans dismiss Fjortoft's latest claim, he was one of the first to break the news that Mesut Ozil was heading to North London, and he is one of the go-to-guys when it comes to transfer gossip relating to Germany.
But as he himself said: To be continued...
