Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois looks set to win yet another trophy at on-loan La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid as he closes in on the Zamora Trophy.
The Belgian international is in his third season in the Spanish capital on loan from Premier League side Chelsea, and the impact he has had on the Rojiblancos has been monumental.
His impressive performances have called for a return to Stamford Bridge by some quarters in West London, with some suggesting he could and should take the place of current Blues number one Petr Cech.
This season, along with a possible La Liga and Champions League double, the 21-year-old is almost certain to pick up the prestigious Zamora trophy given to the goalkeeper who has conceded the least amount of La Liga goals over the season.
On his prospects of winning, Courtois said it’s beautiful whilst modestly praising the team for doing their part.
“Just like last year, it’s something very beautiful to win but I believe the Zamora is a trophy for the whole team. It’s the hard work of the defence and the team that does the defensive work well. To be named the Zamora is very special for the team and I hope to achieve it at the end of the season.” He told Spanish press AS.
Atletico Madrid currently have the best defensive record in La Liga, conceding just 22 goal in 34 matches – six less than second best Barcelona and ten less than Real Madrid.
Aside from conceding the least amount of goals, the Blues' future number one has also kept a record 19 clean sheets – four more than both Victor Valdes and Diego Lopez.
