Arsenal could not have hoped for a better start to the weekend, as Everton inexplicably scored not one but two own-goals to gift Southampton three points in Saturday's early kick-off.
As a result, the Toffees have now suffered a potentially fatal blow in the race to secure a top-four finish and a Champions League place next season.
There is still plenty of football to be played, but Arsenal will know that a win on Monday evening against Newcastle United will see them well on their way to yet another season among Europe's elite. And along with a returning and seemingly resurgent Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil will be hoping to rediscover his early season form and fire the Gunners to a much-needed victory.
With no football to occupy his time on Saturday morning, Ozil posted a photograph of his new boots on his official Instagram account.
He will no doubt be hoping the Adidas Grace will help him to a goal or an assist or two on Monday evening and what remains of the campaign. He may feel he owes Arsenal fans a strong end to a season that started with a flourish but risked ending in little more than a damp squib.
But if his next few performances are as impressive as those boots look, he could continue to repay that club-record fee the North London side paid last summer.
