Arsenal players show support ... for German ice hockey finalists!

Lukas Podolski Germany

Lukas Podolski has roped his team-mates into supporting Kolner Haie - his home ice hockey team.

Arsenal are not in action until Monday - but today has been a very good day for the club.

Southampton did them a favour by beating Everton 2-0 at St Marys as The Toffees went into self-destruct mode to all but end any hope of making fourth spot in the Champions League running.

If Arsenal beat Newcastle on Monday they will be four points clear of their nearest rivals with just two games left - and with the form Newcastle are in you can forgive me for believing that is a given.

But it turns out they weren’t just hoping for a result at St Marys this weekend - but the boys have got together to show their support for a German ice hockey team.

AFC goes Icehockey. Come on Kölner Haie, we wish you good luck for tomorrow's game. Bite back and get the 7th game to Cologne;) #afc #london #koelnerhaie #cologne #eishockey #sharks#haie #poldi #aha #koelschejung

Lukas Podolski got the likes of Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta and French crock Abou Diaby to show their support for his home town side Kolner Haie.

They are currently involved in the playoffs to be crowned the German champions and are currently trailing 3-2 in the best of seven series - needing a win tomorrow afternoon to take it to the final game of the series - and potentially win silverware.

Something Podolski will hope to do with Arsenal in May.
