The top five players linked with signing for Liverpool this week: Contento, Calhanoglu and more

Bayern Munich, Hamburg, FC Schalke, Dnipro and QPR stars all feature.

As Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League get better, Brendan Rodgers’ job this summer continues to get a little bit harder.

The boss is going to have to improve his squad ahead of next season where a title defence, the Champions League and wiser teams will all make life much more difficult for the Reds as they go about their business.

Here are five of the best players linked with Liverpool this past week who could help the matter.

Diego Contento (Bayern Munich)

Contento is reportedly a target for Hertha Berlin in Germany but with Liverpool in need of a left-back, the 23-year-old is a very interesting option. Contento has struggled to get regular first team game time under Pep Guardiola which could make him more open to a move.

Hakan Calhanoglu (Hamburg)

The Turk could be a good attacking signing for Liverpool as Rodgers looks for ways to provide backup and support to SAS. He’s ruled out a move to his homeland, which means a Premier League move for the 20-year-old is still on the cards. Competition will come from Arsenal.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos (FC Schalke)

The Greek has previously been linked with a move to Anfield and he’s been suggested as a possible replacement for Daniel Agger by the Express. However, his temper is infamous across European football and something which occasionally gets him into trouble.

Yevhen Konoplyanka (Dnipro)

The Express claims that Rodgers will have another go at landing Konoplyanka after missing out on him last winter. He has a reported £50 million transfer budget to spend and Konoplyanka would be a sensible signing as he’d take up roughly £15 million of that reported budget.

Stephane Mbia (Queens Park Rangers)

Mbia has been plying his trade at La Liga outfit Sevilla after QPR were relegated from the Premier League last season. He’d be a solid midfield addition for the Reds though there are more pressing areas in the squad, which Rodgers needs to improve before another midfielder comes in.
