On this day: Zaha on Arsenal snub and Salah scouted

On the 25th April 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Chelsea.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 25th April 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 25th April 2013…

Zaha on Arsenal

Wilfried Zaha was speaking about his decision to join Manchester United over many other interested parties - including his favourite club Arsenal.

Zaha grew up supporting The Gunners and always expected to move from Crystal Palace to The Emirates when the time was right.

However the lure of United proved too much:

“I have always supported Arsenal. I did not expect United to come in but they did. Arsenal are a good team but United are one of the best in the world.”

In hindsight he probably wishes he had joined Arsenal. He has barely had an opportunity for United under David Moyes, amid rumours of a fractious relationship between the pair, and is currently on loan at Cardiff City.

He will hope Moyes’ successor brings more opportunities.

The agent of Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski said a deal was done to see him leave the club - with United fans hoping it was for them.

His agent, Maik Barthel, stated:

“We have reached an agreement with a club and intend [him] to move this summer. There is a very interesting offer for Robert which fulfils entirely the demands set by Dortmund and also the demands of Robert. Dortmund have assured us that Robert can move at the end of the season under these conditions. We stick to agreements and now it’s up to the clubs to sort things out.”

In the end this team proved to be Bayern Munich - however not last summer.

Instead he will join them on a free transfer in June.

Spurs seek Salah

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly sent scouts to check out FC Basel forward Mohamed Salah in action - against Chelsea.

Andre Villas-Boas liked the look of the Egyptian after he helped knock Spurs out in the previous round - but in the end Salah joined Chelsea after rejecting Liverpool.
