According to Francois Gallardo on his weekly El Chiringuito TV football show, he has announced that Arsenal are interested in doing a deal for Barcelona winger Pedro.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has proven in the past that he is capable of attracting the big names, and the record £42.4m signing of Mesut Ozil also shows the Frenchman isn’t shy on spending the cash when needs be.
Spanish international winger Pedro is thought of as one of Barcelona’s better players, though the signing of Neymar Jr last summer has often seen the talented winger left frustrated on the side-lines.
Under-fire boss Gerardo Martino has adopted a highly-criticised tinkering approach to Barcelona this season, where a number of changes are being made on a weekly basis with players struggling to build any momentum.
26-year-old Pedro has been one of a number of stars to suffer from the Argentine’s approach, with the former La Masia product starting just 24 of Barcelona’s 34 La Liga matches and just three Champions League matches – one less than substitute goalkeeper Pinto.
Francois Gallardo believes Arsenal want the player, with Barcelona also interested in taking advantage of the Gunners’ position by making a move for German international Mesut Ozil – though the likelihood of Ozil leaving the Emirates this summer is very slim.
The Spanish journalist goes on to say that with Barcelona currently facing financial problems, they are actively looking to sell Alexis Sanchez. However, the Chilean winger has been more productive than Pedro this season, and perhaps an Arsenal offer big enough could tempt the Catalans to sell ahead of next season.
Pedro is rated at €25m by transfermarkt.com, but if the Gunners’ alleged interest is to be true, Arsene Wenger may have to offer a figure much closer to Mesut Ozil’s record transfer fee is he wishes to conclude a headline-making deal.
