Arsenal morning news: Bender targeted and Sagna will leave report

Lars Bender Germany

All the latest news and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Arsenal are being linked with a move for Lars Bender once again - as they seek reinforcements for Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini.

The Bayer Leverkusen star was the subject of a bid in the summer of 2013 - however the £15 million tilt was rejected by the Bundesliga side.

Now the 24-year-old is set to be the subject of a £17 million move by The Gunners this summer - a deal which could depend on whether Bayer manage to secure Champions League qualification after coming under severe pressure from VfL Wolfsburg for the final spot.

Bender is also said to be unhappy at the sacking of former coach Sami Hyppia.

The Daily Star believe that Bacary Sagna is on his way out of the club this summer. Sagna, who has been in top form this season, is believed to have finally ran out of patience with the continued negotiation issues at the club - and is set to leave for free this summer.

Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Galatasaray are all being linked with a move for the player.

Meanwhile PSG, Monaco, Fenerbahce and Inter Milan have all been mentioned in the past as having an interest in the player.

Sagna has however been talking up his team-mate Abou Diaby. The Frenchman has been out of action since this time last year - the latest setback in a long line of serious ailments for the Les Bleus international.

But Sagna has said of him:

"He always wants to give the maximum, he always stays positive and I think that's why he's back today. To me he is one of the best in the world [when he is fit]. When he's at his best he can play as well as Patrick Vieira did and as good as many players did. He can be useful for the team and he can be decisive.”
