Arsenal latest: Wilshere 'progressing well' and Sagna talks hit wall

Arsene Wenger and Jack Wilshere Press Conference - 18/02/2014

All the latest news and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Abou Diaby has suffered a setback to his injury return. The Frenchman has been out of action for over a year with a serious knee problem but has now picked up a minor setback in his recovery.

“Diaby played one half [for the Under 21s. How far away he is is difficult to say, but he had a little groin problem after the game so will not be available for Monday.”

It appears to be becoming increasingly likely that he will not feature at all this season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has also increased doubt over the future of Bacary Sagna.

Reports have been contradicting this week in regards to his contract wrangling with the club - but it certainly appears that he has not yet decided anything.

And Wenger said of the ordeal:

“At the moment they are not progressing. We know what we want from him, he knows what is on the table and that's where we are. The ball is not in our camp anymore, it is in his camp, and he needs to come back to us.”

He has been linked with moves to Manchester City, PSG, Monaco, Inter Milan, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

In more fitness news Wenger has been speaking about Thomas Vermaelen and Jack Wilshere today. Vermaelen could return for the Newcastle United tie on Monday while Kieran Gibbs remains injured - and he had good news on Wilshere’s recovery:

“Everybody who was available at Hull last week will be available for Newcastle. Vermaelen could be back so everybody should be there but not Gibbs, not Diaby yet. Of course Wilshere and Walcott are still out as well. Jack is progressing well. He is still on course to be with the team in the last couple of games.”
