Match to be played on Sunday 27th April 2014 at 14:05. Venue: Anfield, Liverpool.
Jose Mourinho has a big dilemma ahead of the Premier League game against Liverpool; go all out or hold players back for the second leg of the Champions League game against Atletico Madrid?
The Blues will definitely be missing Petr Cech and John Terry who both got injured earlier this week in the first leg, which leaves Mourinho without two of his most experienced players.
Here’s the side he could go with.
GK – Mark Schwarzer
The Australian did a good job when he came on against Atletico Madrid and he will take the number one slot.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic
Ivanovic was suspended for the game this week, which means he’s had extra rest and will be fresher. He returns to the side.
CB – Gary Cahill
Cahill has been one of Chelsea’s most consistent players this season and he keeps his place in the heart of the back four.
CB – David Luiz
Terry’s injury means Luiz may have to drop back from midfield on the left side of central defence. He needs to have a safe and solid 90 minutes.
LB – Ashley Cole
Mourinho has already hinted that he’s looking to rest key players ahead of the second game against Atletico, which means Cole could get a rare start with Cesar Azpilicueta having a rest.
RM – Andre Schurrle
The German could be injected into the midfield for this game, urged to use his pace on the counter attack. He’ll be confident as he’s been in good form over recent weeks.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic should return to the side after he was rested due to being ineligible for the Champions League. He’ll slot into the side looking to offer the back four a lot of protection.
DM – John Obi Mikel
If Mourinho sets the side up with a very defensive look then Mikel could partner Matic in front of the back four.
CM – Oscar
Oscar was a sub against Atletico Madrid and he didn’t get off the bench so he’ll be fresh. He’s one of the only players in Chelsea’s squad who can take this game away from Liverpool quickly.
LM – Mohamed Salah
Salah could be presented with a chance to start against the side he was tipped to join last winter. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool are left regretting not trying harder to sign him.
ST – Demba Ba
Fernando Torres worked hard against Atletico Madrid and Mourinho may want to use him next week, which means a rare start for Demba Ba.
