On this day: Suarez banned, Torres wants 3 more years and Jovetic done deal

Luis Suarez Bite

On the 24th April 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 24th April 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 24th April 2013…

Jovetic to Arsenal?

A year ago today it was reported that Arsenal had completed a deal to sign Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina.

The Montenegrin international striker had been courted by several teams over the past few months but it appeared that The Gunners had got their man.

The reports claimed that a £24 million deal was on the verge of being concluded for the player - and was only being withheld from public knowledge due to Vincenzo Montella, the Fiorentina manager’s. desire to keep it under wraps.

However this of course proved to be complete and utter rubbish.

Arsenal were ruled out as an option by the forward in June and in July he signed a 322 million deal with Manchester City.

Torres to stay

Fernando Torres was speaking about his future - and announced plans to remain at the club for another three years.

The Spaniard was being linked with a move away from the club after struggling since arriving for £50 million in 2011.

But he made it clear he had no desire to leave the club:

"I have many things still to give to this club. I have three more years contract so I expect to stay at least three years. We are sure that we are a great team and we want to show everyone. I would like to be involved."

Chelsea are expected to sign a new striker in the present day summer - but Torres is still believed to be keen on staying regardless.

Biting the bullet

Luis Suarez heads into the weekend to face Chelsea - but a year ago today a moment of madness against Chelsea was punished.

The Uruguayan was told that he would miss 10 games after biting Branislav Ivanovic - after the FA passed sentence on his indiscretion.

A year on and most people have forgotten about it after he has fired Liverpool to the brink of Premier League glory.
