Liverpool morning news, Agger attracting interest as two defenders linked, Sturridge fitness boost

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Thursday morning

Liverpool vice-captain Daniel Agger is attracting the interest of former Reds’ boss Rafa Benitez at Napoli according to the Daily Express.

The Express also reports that Liverpool will again move for Schalke centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos, who has returned from a knee injury this season, and for Sporting Lisbon left-back Marco Rojo.

The Reds are expected to receive a major fitness boost this weekend with the return of striker Daniel Sturridge for their huge clash with Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.

The striker, who has scored 20 goals in the Premier League this season for the league leaders, missed last weekend’s win over Norwich City because of a hamstring strain he picked up in the win against Manchester City the week before.

He is expected to resume full training today, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The club unveiled detailed plans for the redevelopment of the Main Stand at Anfield to expand the ground by 8,500 seats. This will increase the capacity of Anfield to 54,000, with the club hoping construction will be underway in 2015, and completed in time for the start of the 2016/17 season. They're preparing to submit plans to the city's council.

Managing Director Ian Ayre is quoted, saying: “It would be fantastic for the football club and the fans if we can continue our progress on the pitch and with the stadium because hand in hand they support each other.

“We set out a very clear set of objectives and time scales to achieve what we want to achieve on the stadium and it’s very much on track.”
