Chelsea head into this weekend's crucial top of the table clash with Liverpool five points adrift of the Reds in the title race, but with the second leg of the Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid to come next week, it seems that manager Jose Mourinho will choose to rest many of his star players at Anfield.
However, one key player will be missing regardless, as winger Eden Hazard has been ruled out through injury. The Belgian suffered a hamstring injury in the recent Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain and has been sidelined since, and will now miss the Liverpool game in a bid to get him ready to face Atletico on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Blues midfielder Ramires has been banned until next season for an off the ball incident in last weekend's defeat to Sunderland. The Brazilian midfielder was seen striking Black Cats midfielder Sebastian Larsson in the face but the referee missed the incident, and as a result, he has been banned for four Premier League matches - which will run over into the next campaign.
“Chelsea midfielder Ramires has accepted a charge of violent conduct following an off-the-ball incident that was not seen by the match officials but caught on video. The incident occurred during Chelsea’s Premier League fixture against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on Saturday April 19. Ramires receives a four match ban which will start with immediate effect," read an FA statement.
Mourinho is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as the Blues look to reclaim the Premier League title, and there are once again links surfacing that Chelsea will make a big money move to sign Paris Saint-Germain's Argentine forward Ezequiel Lavezzi. The former Napoli man is allegedly available for €21m at the end of the season, which has caught Mourinho's eye as he looks to bring more goals to West London.
