1. How long have you been in the industry, and what is your current job title ?

I began my career in the early nineties, spending seven years as a broker with a city trading firm before joining Harvey Nash in 1998. I’m currently Managing Director of Professional Recruitment (London & South East).

2. Did you have a mentor, and if so who ?

I never had a formal mentor, but if I could choose one it would have to be someone with no fear, like Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

3. Are you by nature a pessimist or an optimist ?

Optimist, hands down. The glass is always half full for me.

4. Which business leader do you respect the most and why ?

Steve Jobs, for his vision, innovation and sheer brilliance of his products. The iPhone on its own is now worth more than the whole of Microsoft. One product trumping the entirety of your competitor’s company ? That’s game-changing.

5. What’s the biggest lesson you have learned in your career to date ?

You can’t control everything. This is especially important to remember in the world of recruitment: everyone wants an answer from you straightaway, but it’s important to take the time to make decisions that are going to be best for everyone involved. I always count to ten to make sure I avoid making knee-jerk decisions.

6. What’s your favourite business quotation or life motto ?

‘You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take’ – Wayne Gretzky

7. What’s the best business book you’ve ever read?

Definitely Jim Collins’ From Great to Good. The idea of building a company DNA that can stand the test of time has never been more important. It’s an idea that has helped us take Harvey Nash through the financial crisis and come out the other end as a stronger, more resilient and more flexible company.
