Acquired from AS Roma for £30m, Erik Lamela, 22, arrived at Tottenham Hotspur with much hype - perhaps heightened due to the positional comparisons to the man he was effectively replacing; Gareth Bale - yet has since delivered little over the course of his debut season.
That should not detract from the overall talent the young Argentine possesses… this is still the same player who scored an outrageous 120 goals in a single season for a River Plate youth team before he was even a teenager and this is still the same player who dazzled at Roma.
Reports linking Lamela to his previous club have proven to be accurate as the forward was seen at the ‘Fulvio Bernardini’ sport center where he met his former team-mates during a training session, as told by Italy's Sky Sport.
However, the purpose of the trip was not over a transfer.
Journalist Angelo Mangiante confirmed: "[Lamela] visited AS Roma's traning center, met former friends [and] visited the back specialist. He will [return] to London tomorrow."
Lamela has featured in more Europa League football than Premier League competition this season, playing 413 minutes in the former and 331 minutes in the latter. In both competitions he has scored one goal and returned four assists.
He has suffered back trouble since the start of the calendar year.
