Five exciting Dutchmen Van Gaal can sign for Manchester United

Louis Van Gaal

Which of his compatriots could Louis van Gaal look to sign for Manchester United if he lands the job?

Whether it be at Barcelona or Bayern Munich, Louis van Gaal has laced his sides with a bit of the Dutch flair which he built his reputation with at Ajax.

With Philippe Cocu, Patrick Kluivert, Michael Reiziger and Arjen Robben among the stars he has signed for both teams, don't bet against him doing the same if he lands the United role.

With Dutch international captain Robin van Persie, not forgetting Alexander Buttner, already at the club, who could he look to add?

Kevin Strootman

United were linked with signing Strootman last summer, only to be beaten to his signature by Roma instead, while they focused on Cesc Fabregas. Since then he has excelled, scoring five goals and providing six assists in Serie A. He has injured his knee, ruling him out of the World Cup, but he was pictured recently with Van Gaal and Robin Van Persie, and there's no doubt he would be an excellent addition to United's midfield. They just have to ensure they do not overpay, while accounting for the risk regarding his recovery from his injury.

Jordy Clasie

Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie has been described as the Dutch Xavi, and linked previously to Arsenal and Tottenham. The 22-year-old pass master has six assists and one goal this campaign, and may decide this is the perfect time to step up. Van Gaal will be the ideal coach to get the best out of him, and Clasie could become a key component of United's side.

Joel Veltman

Rated as the best Dutchman in the Eredivisie by whoscored, the centre-back is highly regarded at Ajax, and has been linked previously to United. Sporting director Marc Overmars recently said he would lie in front of the gates to try and stop him leaving, but for a played of Veltman's clear talent, the 23-year-old's eventual departure is inevitable. With the Red Devils requiring new talent at centre-back, he is an obvious choice.

Davy Klaasen

Ajax's other most coveted Dutch talent, Davy Klaasen has been described as the next Dennis Bergkamp by the media. The 21-year-old has 11 goals and three assists in his debut season, excelling in an attacking midfield role. If Van Gaal can be flexible enough to create a formation to allow Klaasen to express his talents alongside United's current stars, his signing could be an astute one.

Jetro Willems

Holland's youngest player at Euro 2012, the left-back was an obvious choice for United to look at this summer. The 20-year-old is a regular for PSV, and a natural replacement for Patrice Evra. However just last week Willems injured his knee ligaments, ruling him out of the World Cup, and making a summer departure questionable. However his potential signing is one to watch in future transfer windows, or now if United are determined to make it work now and snap him up at a lower price.
