All the latest news and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Arsenal are believed to be on the brink of agreeing a new deal with French right-back Bacary Sagna. The long standing contract wrangle is said to be coming to an end. It is believed that Arsenal originally offered him £75k-a-week - which he reportedly rejected.

However an improved offer involving an optional third year extension is said to be on the way to being accepted - despite rumours linking him with switches to Italy, Turkey or his French homeland - as well as Middle Eastern destinations.

Sagna has been one of the best players at Arsenal this season and it is believed Arsene Wenger is desperate for him to stay.

Meanwhile it is also reported that Wenger could leave the club this summer if they do not win the FA Cup AND finish in the top four.

Wenger is said to be willing to walk away after 18 years at the club involving if he feels he has failed the club this season - meaning finish in the top four and winning silverware is necessary for him to stay.

Per Mertesacker says his team-mate and friend Mesut Ozil must take criticism with good jest and become more consistent at the club.

The German international has told his international compatriot:

“It's very important to understand how the differences are between the leagues. I think he came from La Liga and it's quite different to play there. He has adapted well but there is more to come from him, and I think the second season will be much better from him, because he's a fantastic player. He has shown some great skills but he needs to be more consistent, and that's what makes the difference at the end.”

Meanwhile Mesut Ozil has himself been speaking - posting on his Facebook page:
