Arsenal star Lukas Podolski earned his relegated side £11 million when he left them for Arsenal, and he has continued to share his appreciation for his former side since departing.
The in-form German made an impromptu return to Cologne yesterday to watch their Bundesliga 2 clash against Bochum, to see them clinch promotion.
Cologne won 3-1 to seal a return to Germany's top flight, sparking a final whistle pitch invasion, which Podolski was only too happy to share.
He posted the following message on his Instagram page: "I'm so happy for my ex club...congrats FC for coming back to the 1st League!!! #effzeh #1liga #cologne #stadion #fans #poldi #aha"
Podolski had warned ahead of the game, speaking to German television: "If the team is not in the Bundesliga, this is a disaster. The climb is very important. And important now that peace reigns in the club."
This summer may be too soon for Podolski to quit Arsenal where he is happy to rejoin his former side, but a return at some stage is surely inevitable.
