Everton's latest loss is a huge blow to Champions League chances

With Kevin Mirallas injured for the remainder of the season, Everton will have a much harder task qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Everton fans will be bitterly disappointed with today’s breaking news regarding an injury sustained by Belgian international Kevin Mirallas. The 26-year-old has been ruled out of the club’s last three games of the season, having suffered a muscle tear during the Toffees' 2-0 win over Manchester United.

This injury comes at the worst possible time for the Merseyside club. With a top four finish hanging in the balance the club will now be forced to play out the remainder of the season without one of their star players – who was incidentally on the verge of hitting his best form..

Mirallas has missed just three matches all season, proving himself as one of the Toffee’s most influential attacking players. In light of his recent injury, the club will be losing both their most creative player and second highest scorer, behind only fellow compatriot Romelu Lukaku.

He has netted eight league goals this season, while setting up an average of just under two chances per match.

Essentially, he is a key component in Roberto Martinez’s attacking system at Goodison and his injury will be hard felt by the squad and fans alike. He has emerged as a serious threat from out wide, growing with confidence as the season has progressed.

Aiden McGeady and Gerard Deulofeu will now be tasked with stepping up in the Belgian’s absence as Everton prepare to take on Southampton, Manchester City and Hull City in their final games.
