Chelsea ace Courtois says his idol is Manchester United hero Edwin van der Sar

Atletico Madrid's man of the moment has reportedly revealed his two idols.

Thibaut Courtois is this week to become one of the most discussed players in football, as he prepares for the Champions League semi-finals.

The Belgian will line up for loan club Atletico Madrid against the side who own his contract, Chelsea.

There was plenty of debate over whether he was eligible to play in the tie, but Chelsea have reportedly given up on attempting to enforce any unofficial agreement.

The big question remaining regarding Courtois is whether Chelsea will bring him back to Stamford Bridge next season, or stick with the evergreen Petr Cech.

Courtois has spent the week ahead of the game giving interviews where he has described Chelsea as favourites for the tie.

In an interview with FIFA.com, Courtois has revealed his two goalkeeping idols, and Cech is not included.

In fact the one Premier League veteran who does feature is the man who denied Chelsea the Champions League in 2008, then Manchester United stopper Edwin van der Sar.

"The goalkeepers I used to admire when I was growing up, the ones I watched closely to try and learn from, were [Iker] Casillas and [Edwin] Van der Sar."

Which just emphasises just how young Courtois really is. The stopper is only 21, but has so far passed every test which has come his way.

If he proves the match winner during the contests with Chelsea this week, don't bet against Jose Mourinho deciding to fast-track him into the first team next season at the expense of Cech, as they may simply not be able to hold him back any longer.
