Even though Chelsea are the Europa League holders, won the Champions League two years ago and compete in the first leg of the semifinals of the tournament later today, Tuesday, they no longer possess a fear factor in Europe as a number of other teams have caught up to their own standard.
That is the opinion of full back Juan Francisco Torres, aka Juanfran, who is looking forward to the visit of Chelsea at the Vicente Calderon this evening as it gives Atletico Madrid the opportunity to demonstrate that the playing field between themselves and the Blues is level.
He told Sky Sports: "Nobody has fear of [Jose] Mourinho and Chelsea. These two matches are life and death and we will do everything to win. Our challenge is to play in the [Champions League] final in Lisbon and we have been preparing for this game against Chelsea since the day of the draw.
"Chelsea have the bigger name than us in Europe in the last few years, but now the situation is level and we are capable of beating Chelsea.
"This season Atletico is living a dream, but in the next weeks arrives the best times and we want more and more."
Atletico are on the cusp of a historic double because, as well as competing in the Champions League, they are also in command of La Liga, leading Barcelona by four points as they have 85 points from 34 matches. They are also six points ahead of third-placed Real Madrid, who have a game in hand.
