There may be a lot of confusion surrounding the future of Manchester United boss David Moyes, but the club still need to press ahead with plans for the summer transfer window regardless of the decision regarding Moyes' tenure - with a number of world stars linked with moves to Old Trafford.
United need to bring in an influx of talent this summer in order to get back to the pinnacle of English football, and with a reported £200m available to spend at the end of the season, the Red Devils are expected to be busy this summer - but one new name was linked today in a shock report.
United have been incessantly linked with Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos since the January transfer window, but it's one of his team mates who has now been suggested as a target for United, with Mario Gotze reportedly telling friends that he's set to join the Old Trafford outfit this summer.
Gotze, 21, left Borussia Dortmund for the Allianz Arena in a controversial €37m switch last summer, and has enjoyed a productive season under Pep Guardiola, hitting 13 goals in all competitions - so why on earth would he be saying that he's poised to leave the club?
Gotze is by no means the star of the show at Bayern as he's surrounded by the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery in Bavaria, but the rumours of a €40m move to United seem far fetched, unless the German international has been uncovered as the 'mole', referenced by Guardiola back in February.
This story seems like nonsense, as Bayern are unlikely to sell a young talent less than a year after acquiring him, particularly for just €3m more than their outlay. As much as Gotze would be an excellent signing for the Red Devils, fellow midfielder Kroos still seems more likely to join.
