Chelsea may have seen their Premier League hopes all but disappear this weekend, but they could still end the season on the highest of highs if they can win the Champions League.
To do so, they will have to overcome Atletico Madrid in the semi-final, and either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the final, but with Jose Mourinho at the helm, anything is possible.
The first-leg takes place on Tuesday in Spain, and speaking ahead of that clash, Atletico midfielder Diego Ribas has reserved special praise for two of his countrymen who he is likely to come up against twice in the next 10 days.
In quotes published by Inside Spanish Football, Ribas said, “Things are always difficult in the Champions League and you have to know how to play the games by preparing very well and that’s what we’re doing.
Atletico’s outstanding form this season sees them top of La Liga and with a very real chance of a remarkable double.
But Chelsea will have other ideas, and with Oscar and Willian just two of the many men Diego Simeone’s side will need to keep their eye on, Mourinho will be quietly confident of reaching a final that could see an unmissable reunion with the club he left last summer.
