Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has been the subject of an approach from Italian side Napoli according to the player’s agent Alex Kroes.

The Daily Mail published quotes from the Belgian defender’s representative, in which he said, “Yes Napoli have been on the player and have stepped forward, but other clubs have also shown their interest and not just Italian clubs.

“At the moment we are not thinking about it. There’s a World Cup to be played and we will postpone any discussions until afterwards.”

Vermaelen’s future has been in doubt for some time, and having slipped down the Gunners’ pecking-order he is likely to leave this summer. But for now the where and the when remains a mystery.

In other news, Talk Sport have picked up on reports from Sport Mediaset which claim Gunners’ target Sime Vrsaljko is now on the radar of Inter Milan.

The Genoa player is reportedly on Arsene Wenger’s short-list to replace Bacary Sagna should he fail to sign a new contract at the Emirates. But claims of preliminary contact between the two Italian clubs suggest Wenger may miss out on Vrsaljko.
