Last week saw reports in Portugal link Roberto Martinez with an interest in Zenit St Petersburg attacker Danny. The Portuguese international was reportedly being looked at as a potential replacement for Gerard Deulofeu - who is expected to join up with his parent club Barcelona from next season.
Danny, who once scored against Manchester United in a UEFA Super Cup final, showed why interest in his talents might be growing - as his winner earned Zenit a dramatic win against relegation threatened Anzhi Makhachkala.
It was a goal that also saved Andre Villas-Boas’ excellent record since arriving at the club in mid-March.
Salomon Rondon had given Zenit an early lead but Anzhi star Fedor Smolov equalised on the half-hour mark. But Danny then spoiled the Dagestan party with his goal.
Zenit have now won all five of their games since the arrival of AVB - scoring 16 and conceding six as they have powers their way back to the top of the Russian Premier League table.
Not bad for a man deemed surplus by two of the Premier League big boys in recent years.
