Atletico Madrid have reportedly placed an €8m asking price for Manchester United linked defender Tobias Alderweireld.
With Manchester United duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand set to leave Old Trafford this summer, a new centre-back is high on David Moyes’ shopping list.
The Red Devils have been linked with a number of stars over the past few months, including Porto’s expensive French international Eliaquim Mangala, though they appear no closer to finding their new star defender.
David Moyes, however, may have been handed a lifeline as Atletico Madrid’s out-of-favour centre-back Tobias Alderweireld is reportedly available for transfer.
According to the Spanish press Elgoldigital, Diego Simeone has deemed the Belgian international surplus to requirements at the Vicente Calderon stadium and has urged Mancheter United to make an offer by placing an €8m asking price.
The 6ft 2inch centre-back only joined the Rojiblancos on a four-year contract last summer, but after making just 11 appearances all season, his career in Spain appears to be drawing to a close.
Manchester United have reportedly tracked Alderweireld for the best part of 18 months, and were rumoured to have taken a strong interest in his services before he opted for La Liga.
The Spanish paper go on to say that David Moyes has already contacted the Spanish club regarding his availability, with Atletico Madrid allegedly happy to sell and make a profit on the €7m they spent on him last summer.
The 25-year-old technical defender can also fill in at right-back, and has played alongside current United star Marouane Fellaini a number of times for the Belgian national team.
