The Manchester United manager can expect a frosty reception on his return to Goodison Park – but is it deserved?
It has been a tough season for Manchester United manager David Moyes, with his debut campaign in the Old Trafford hotseat not going to plan.
It is widely expected that Moyes will not be given the warmest of welcomes, with the British tabloids suggesting that the Scot will be booed by the Merseyside faithful.
But, given Moyes’ past at the club, are the boos deserved?
The main gripe that Everton fans will have with the Scot is the way in which he tried to lure Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini to Old Trafford.
The Belgian eventually made the move to Manchester, while the England left-back rejected United’s overture to pen a new contract with the Toffees.
United’s approach for the then-Everton pair was certainly not the most professional, with a ‘derisory’ bid instantly rejected by Roberto Martinez’s men.
Moyes did make a blunder his handling of the transfer advances, which is something that shouldn’t have happened given his past at Goodison.
However, Everton fans must remember the good work that Moyes put in over nine years with the Merseyside club. Although Martinez is having a good campaign, Moyes laid the groundwork for his achievements by building the core of the squad.
As such, Everton fans should consider their actions tomorrow as Moyes may have made a slip-up with the transfer advances, but surely his dedication to the club beforehand outweighs this?
