Arsenal morning news: Keeper turns down move and Wenger defends Giroud

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium this morning.

Reported goalkeeper target Kiko Casilla is set to snub interest from the Premier League this summer and stay with Barcelona side Espanyol instead.

The talented 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Arsenal as well as Manchester United but he admitted to the press he had no intention to move on:

“My intention is to stay here. This club gave me so much when things were going badly, and I always had a helping hand when I needed them. Now I am happy here, enjoying myself and playing. This is where I belong."

Arsenal have stepped up their hotel security after a recent set of worries. Olivier Giroud faced accusations of an extra-marital affair after sneaking out late at night while the players were reportedly kept up late before they were thrashed by Liverpool .

Arsene Wenger has been leaping to the defence of his star striker this week - suggesting he has every right to feel tired after the season he has had.

Giroud, who reached 20 goals for the season in midweek against West Ham, has been out of form recently - but Wenger believes he should be forgiven for a dip in form considering the amount of work he has put in this campaign:

“It's difficult up front because every challenge he goes into is physical. He's not a guy who moves away from people to get the ball; he's a guy who fights with people to get the ball. When he comes out of the game, he has 50 fights behind him. That is more demanding than the guy who just runs away."
