No Hazard! - Owen leaves Chelsea star out of team of the season in favour of Sterling

Michael Owen has not made many Chelsea fan friends today by opting for Raheem Sterling over Eden Hazard.

Today has seen Michael Owen announce his team of the season via Twitter - and here it is…

Of course this caused a lot of debate. No Arsenal players despite the club leading the way for most the campaign? Seamus Coleman misses out at right back? De Gea in goal? Plenty of interesting points have been raised after the former Manchester United and Liverpool striker announced his selection.

But the one exclusion that has really got pulses racing - particulary in South West London - is the decision to leave out Eden Hazard.

The Chelsea star has had arguably his best season in a blue kit and the Belgian is on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award.

But Owen went with Adam Lallana, certainly a fair inclusion - and it would appear that it was Raheem Sterling was the man who forced Hazard out of his thinking.

Owen justified his decision on Twitter - stating:

But Chelsea fans were certainly not pleased to be seeing a team of the season without their prized asset included.

Sterling has had an exceptional season - but there is certainly a case to suggest Hazard deserved the recognition more than the Chelsea star.

But these team of the years are often a topic of hot debate and nobody is ever going to completely agree.

Michael Owen certainly knows that by now.
