Premier League sides have long been aware of centre back Simon Kjaer, even when the 25-year-old was representing Wolfsburg but now, at Lille, he continues to attract admiring glances from England, with Manchester United supposedly keen to bolster their weakening rearguard as they look for a replacement for the outbound Nemanja Vidic.
Kjaer recently commented on the speculation and was quoted by Denmark newspaper BT to have said: "It is of course always flattering to be linked with big club but I am not wasting my thoughts on rumours about other clubs. I am spending all my efforts and keep my focus entirely on reaching my goal that we will qualify for the Champions League next season."
If United really were lining Kjaer up to be the heir to the throne vacated by Vidic, will he perform just as well? Here's how they match up, statistically speaking, in their respective domestic divisions since the start of the season…
Kjaer makes a defensive contribution (tackle, interception, clearance and block) once every 7.5 minutes he is on a Ligue 1 field, while Vidic makes a defensive contribution every 6 minutes he is on a Premier League pitch.
Kjaer, though, is part of a defence that is far more stringent as Lille have made just 20 concessions in Ligue 1 - just one more than the defensive stalwarts at PSG, while United have conceded 38 times.
Kjaer is contractually bound to Lille until 2017. He has a transfermarkt.co.uk valuation of £5.3m.
