Match to be played on Sunday 20th April 2014 at 12:00. Venue: Carrow Road, Norwich.
As soon as the game against Manchester City had finished, Steven Gerrard called the players in and told them to focus on the match against Norwich City this weekend.
Brendan Rodgers has team dilemmas with Jordan Henderson suspended and Daniel Sturridge carrying an injury, as he mulls over what team to play off the back of an emotional Hillsborough Memorial Service earlier this week.
Here’s the side he may go with.
GK – Simon Mignolet
The Belgian had some doubts at the start of the season and when he made some mistakes at the turn of the year. However, he’s reacted well and is one of the side’s most important players.
RB – Glen Johnson
Johnson is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League. It’s important for him to maintain a high standard of performance ahead of the World Cup this summer.
CB – Martin Skrtel
Skrtel has added goals to an efficient defensive game this season. He’ll be one of the first names down when Rodgers officially releases his team.
CB – Mamadou Sakho
Sakho has proven to be a very good investment by Liverpool. He’s a strong centre-back and can also cover out on the left if Jon Flanagan gets caught out of position.
LB – Jon Flanagan
Flanagan has played effectively wherever he’s been used by Brendan Rodgers this season. Four more good performances could put him on the plane to Brazil this summer.
RM – Raheem Sterling
Sterling’s pace will be important on the counter attack. Norwich are scrapping for their lives at the bottom of the table so could mount some spells of pressure.
CM – Lucas
Henderson’s suspension gives Rodgers a problem and he could address that problem by starting Lucas. The boss may just opt for that little bit of extra experience.
CM – Steven Gerrard
The Liverpool skipper will take his usual place in the middle. He sets the example on a weekly basis and will be important if this game doesn’t start as the Reds hope.
CM – Joe Allen
Allen will more than likely get a start in this game along with Lucas. He may not stay in a central position throughout and could rotate regularly with Philippe Coutinho who could start on the left hand side.
LM – Philippe Coutinho
Coutinho may start on the left but he won’t stay there. When the full-back gets forward or another midfielder drifts left, Coutinho has the ability to come into the middle and kill this game off.
ST – Luis Suarez
Suarez will do what he does best and harass the Norwich back four. He’ll need to produce a big performance if Sturridge isn’t fit enough to take any part in the game.
