Predicted Chelsea XI to play Sunderland - Lampard to start?

Match to be played on Saturday 19th April 2014 at 17:30. Venue: Stamford Bridge, London.

Chelsea are under huge pressure this weekend as they head into their Premier League game against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

There will be a nice return on the cards for Gus Poyet but then it’s down to business with Jose Mourinho’s men needing three points to keep the pressure up on Liverpool at the top.

Here’s the side the Portuguese could go for.

GK – Petr Cech

Until Thibaut Courtois comes back to the club, Cech will remain the undoubted number one.

RB – Branislav Ivanovic

Ivanovic has been the best right-back at the club this season. It may not be his natural position but while he’s playing effectively there, Mourinho has no need to move him.

CB – Gary Cahill

Cahill has reached a stage in his Chelsea career where he’s one of the first names down on the team sheet each week. He needs a big performance to help the Blues keep a clean sheet.

CB – John Terry

Terry will be a key fixture in the side over the rest of the season because Mourinho will be looking to keep key experience in his team to help deal with pressure situations.

LB – Cesar Azpilicueta

The Spaniard has looked very comfortable playing out of position at left-back. He continues to keep Ashley Cole out of the team.

RM – Willian

Willian has got better and developed as the season has gone on. He’s effective in wide positions and he’s also a good man to have coming inside to get involved in the play centrally.

CM – Nemanja Matic

Matic has performed well since he returned to the club last winter. He protects the defence effectively and is a difficult unit to get the better of.

CM – Frank Lampard

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Lampard coming into the side to pull the strings in the middle of the team.

AM – Oscar

Oscar is the best playmaker Chelsea have and the player they will look to get on the ball most often. He can be creative and make things happen in behind the main striker.

LM – Andre Schurrle

The German should continue to deputise in the absence of Eden Hazard. He’s been in good form and will be looking to throw down a claim for a starting place against Liverpool.

ST – Demba Ba

Ba hasn’t been a constant in Chelsea’s side this season but recently he’s turned up with important goals which have made the difference.
