Sony has announced sales of its next-gen console have topped 7 million since its release last November.
Sony posted a blog on its official website stating that the console has sold more than 7 million units world-wide as of April 6th 2014. Game sales for the PS4 have also reached 20.5 million in retail and on the Playstation Store as of April 13th.
Sony's Sid Shurman said in the blog post: "On behalf of the entire global team at PlayStation, I want to thank you for your unprecedented support and for making PS4 your next-generation console of choice. We couldn’t have done this without you! And please keep the feedback coming: we are listening."
Sales figures have dwarfed that of the Xbox One since both consoles were released. Microsoft's latest figures show sales of 3.9 million units; but that was back in January, the tech giant is yet to release its latest sales figures. However they are certainly not expected to be anywhere near those of the PS4 despite the release of the Xbox's flagship game Titanfall.
To celebrate this latest milestone Sony is releasing a new video editing tool called SHAREfactory when they push out update 1.7 sometime this week. The software will allow users to edit captured video footage by adding filters, transitions, themes, text, stickers, audio and picture-in-picture video.
1.7 also gives users the ability to change recording outputs from HDCP to HDMI, which will allow gamers to upload much longer gameplay clips. Sony are also introducing a pre-download feature so you can download a pre-ordered game several days before its released; the game will then be unlocked on its release date and users will be able to play straight away.
