On this day: Song 'not happy' at Barca, Liverpool ask for United help

Alex Song Cameroon

On the 17th April 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 17th April 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 17th April 2013…

Sing a song for Song

Alex Song reportedly told his cousin Rigobert that he dislikes life at Barcelona.

The former Liverpool man was speaking about the former Arsenal player’s move to Spain - which had been so far unsuccessful.

The £17 million man was struggling for game time and Rigobert said:

“Barcelona put so much effort into signing him last summer, and Alex turned down many great teams in order to sign with them. But this season he has only been a substitute. He is not happy. At Arsenal he was a leader on and off the field – he doesn’t feel like this in Spain and it makes him feel bad.”

Neighbourly love

Liverpool owner John W Henry was revealed to have asked Manchester United for tips on how to run his Anfield empire.

The new owners at Liverpool’s system were rumbled by Ian Ayre - who stated:

“He and Tom are both very open in their approach. They'll contact David [Gill] at United and Ivan [Gazidis] at Arsenal - 'What do you think?' That's healthy. 'Let's get a rounded view of the sport and how we should be doing things.' They both put a lot of time into the team and into the game. That bodes well for Liverpool."

It seems his advice has certainly done plenty of good for table topping Liverpool.

Goliath strike from David

David Luiz scored one of the goals of the season in a 3-0 thrashing against Fulham. He scored a sensational effort from all of 35-yards to help Rafa Benitez pick up another good win with the help of a John Terry double.
