A round up of news stories and transfer rumours about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
Brendan Rodgers says nothing is guaranteed for Liverpool over the last few games of the season. The Reds have the title race in their hands and will be champions if they win their remaining games. The boss said in his press conference earlier today that he doesn’t expect everything to go his team’s way.
Rodgers also confirmed that Daniel Sturridge is likely to miss this weekend’s game against Norwich City but has stressed it’s a minor injury and nothing serious.
“It's not too serious and won't keep him out for too many weeks, but he may be out for the weekend. We'll assess it more over the next couple of days, but that's how we're looking at it at the moment,” said the boss.
Liverpool star Luis Suarez has urged the club’s fans to be calm in the Premier League title race. The striker says he’s told fans he’s bumped into that the team will do their best to win the league.
“When I'm out shopping or out with my family I bump into fans who mention it to me. I've told them to stay calm and not to worry. We'll be trying our best,” he told the Liverpool website.
Iago Aspas wants to stay at Anfield beyond this summer according to his agent. The striker has struggled to make an impact at Liverpool following his move from Celta Vigo last summer.
“Iago has a four-year contract with Liverpool and is very happy to be with the Reds, apart from the fact that he would obviously like to play more,” said Rodriguez Basta.
Liverpool have reportedly got their eye on Real Sociedad playmaker Ruben Pardo. The 21-year-old has made 31 appearances for his side so far this season and has been likened to former Red Xabi Alonso. However, the Spanish side are thought to be trying to get him tied down to a new deal which would increase his buy-out clause to £30 million.
In transfer news, Hamburg have ruled out the sale of striker Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkish international had been suggested as an attacking signing for Liverpool this summer with Brendan Rodgers likely to make several squad additions.
“Selling Hakan is definitely not an option,” Hamburg general manager, Oliver Kreuzer told Hamburger Morgenpost.
Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane says Steven Gerrard deserves to win the Premier League title. The Frenchman has said it would be a shame if a player as good as Gerrard went through his career without a domestic league title.
“He has had a great career winning many things - but it would be a big shame for him if he was never to win the league with Liverpool. For everything that he has given - he deserves a league title,” he told the Mail.
In other news, Liverpool have signed a legal agreement to develop Anfield as part of a £260 million regeneration scheme for the surrounding area.
“We are pleased that great progress has been made with the city council and Your Housing Group about the plans for the regeneration of Anfield and the unique opportunity that gives us to stay at Anfield Stadium,” said Liverpool chairman Tom Werner.
