Everton suffered a major blow against Crystal Palace last night - as their place in the top four lasted a very short time indeed.
Tony Pulis led out an inspired Crystal Palace who in truth were good value for their 3-2 victory against an Everton side who fired blanks in a difficult night at Goodison Park.
With the club now facing an uphill struggle to beat Arsenal to the Champions League qualifying stages - and frustrated Everton fans, at least a minority of them, took to Twitter to keyboard warrior away their anguish.
But they certainly did not expect to come up against a worthy adversary.
French defender Sylvain Distin has been a tremendous servant to the club - and it is often hard to believe his veteran status when watching his performances.
But as well as taking no prisoners on the pitch he certainly doesn’t take any off of it either.
Distin was defending himself in style on Twitter last night - here is a selection of some of his responses to disgruntled fans.
@MickHanEfc maybe not mate but you can't afford better at the minutes so stop moaning kid— Sylvain Distin (@sylvaind15tin) April 16, 2014
@rimmerefc just unfollow me if you don't like to read my opinion. Because I m allowed one too you know— Sylvain Distin (@sylvaind15tin) April 16, 2014
@royboyriddell and I can say what u want too. And answer who I want as well. And there isn't much you can do about it I m afraid— Sylvain Distin (@sylvaind15tin) April 16, 2014
Personally, as an Everton fan myself, I think it is brilliant.
The fans are entitled to be frustrated - and in that entitlement comes a right to criticise their own players if they feel performances are not up to scratch.
But as much as they have the right to criticise - the players, especially in this modern age of technological communication, have the right to respond.
And boy didn’t Distin respond.
