Iago Aspas has found space in Brendan Rodgers’ side hard to come by in his first season on Merseyside.
The Spaniard moved to Anfield from Celta Vigo last summer for £7 million after catching the eye with 12 goals in 34 La Liga appearances.
His Liverpool career got off to an auspicious start with some impressive pre-season displays, but he’s seen just 371 minutes of top flight action with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in brilliant form.
And Aspas vented his frustration at his lack of opportunities earlier this week.
He said when asked by IBTimes UK if he would accept another season of inactivity: “Not really.
“I will talk to the club at the end of the season and, if the situation remains like this, I think that for both the club and for me the best outcome is an exit.
“Because they also paid €9 million for me.”
But the 26-year-old’s agent has now insisted that the diminutive forward will stay with Liverpool - but still wants more minutes.
“There is no possibility of a return to Spain for Iago or a departure elsewhere,” Jose Rodriguez Baster told GianlucaDiMarzio.com.
“Iago has four years left on his contract and he is very happy with the Reds, aside from the fact he would certainly like to play more.
“But he is happy with Rodgers and there is no thought of a possible sale.”
It’s a quick turnaround from what Aspas himself said on Tuesday, but nonetheless it seems the summer signing won’t be making a quick exit from Anfield.
Aspas has gone an unused substitute for five straight games, and it remains to be seen if he’ll play any role in Liverpool’s final push for an historic Premier League title.
