A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Thursday evening.
Lamela has been sidelined for much of Sherwood’s time in charge with a back injury and the Spurs boss was said to be bemused at speculation that he was under pressure to give the Argentine more game time.
Sherwood is quoted, saying: “You know what, I haven’t seen enough of him. He’s never been fit.
“I think he was fit for about three weeks while I was in charge, and then he’s been out injured.
“That’s still an unknown quantity as far as I’m concerned. I’ve assessed the rest of the squad and I’ve got my ideas on who’s capable and probably who’s not, and Erik the jury’s still out on him because I haven’t seen enough of him so he’s been very unfortunate.”
The winger suffered a hamstring tear in December and is aiming to reach the level where he felt ‘invincible,’ and has spoken of his desire to be part of the England squad at the World Cup in Brazil.
He’s quoted, saying: “It would mean the world for me to go to Brazil. Every boy in the country dreams of playing at a World Cup and I’m no different. Those final qualifiers were an unbelievable few days for me. It came at a time where I feared no one. I knew I’d go on the pitch and play well in every single match.”
Tottenham face Fulham in the Saturday lunchtime kick off this weekend, and Mousa Dembele has told the club’s official website that it is a must-win game for both sides.
He said: “I think it’s a good game in prospect because both teams have to win.
“We always want to win, of course, but it’s a massive game for them as well so we know it’s not going to be easy.”
