Wednesday night’s football saw the beginning of a small movement amongst fans on social media, as they called for an unexpected inclusion for Roy Hodgson’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
As Crystal Palace earned a shock 3-2 victory against Everton at Goodison Park, another Jason Puncheon goal sparked serious questions amongst fans as to whether the 27-year-old should be considered for England.
Puncheon scored his seventh goal of the season against Everton, to continue his rich vein of form. Four have now come in the last three games.
His performances have helped lift Crystal Palace to 11th in the table, with the Eagles having all but secured their Premier League status for next season. In what has been a remarkable turnaround for the club who looked destined for relegation, Tony Pulis’ men are now knocking on the door of a top-10 finish.
Puncheon has been one of Palace’s stand-out players this campaign, and has now become one of the most recent names to be linked with a surprise call up to the England World Cup squad.
The likes of Steven Caulker, Luke Shaw, Ross Barkley and Tom Huddleston have been names that have been linked with shock call-ups for England, after strong performances at club level. Although Puncheon’s calls for England are purely speculative, the former Millwall, Blackpool and QPR midfielder could not help but react to the calls on Twitter.
Puncheon responded to Sky Sports News reporter Andy Burton, saying ‘I would love to be on that plane’, as many other fans showed their support for the Palace man.

Crystal Palace face West Ham United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Fulham in their four remaining Premier League fixtures, and will be the perfect opportunity for Puncheon to further stake his claim for a shock England call-up.
