Chelsea morning news: Left-back master plan from Mourinho? Advantage with Blues says City boss

A round up of news stories this morning about Chelsea.

The Evening Standard claims Chelsea are considering moves for Alberto Moreno of Sevilla and Alex Sandro of FC Porto.

The rumours have started with the apparent line that the Blues don’t want to be forced into paying an over the top fee for Southampton’s Luke Shaw.

Shaw is valued at around the £30 million mark by the south coast club, some £10 million more than the Blues were thought to be happy paying for him.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says Chelsea and Liverpool have the advantage in the Premier League title race.

City were held to a 2-2 draw against Sunderland last night, which has seen them slip behind in the bid for a second title win in three years.

“Obviously Liverpool and Chelsea have more of a chance to win [the league] than us now. But anything can happen from now until the end of the season. We will just try to do our best, we’ve got five more games to win and we can add 15 more points,” Pellegrini is quoted by talkSPORT.

Reports persist suggesting Chelsea will axe current playmaker Oscar in order to land Real Madrid star Luka Modric.

Modric has previously been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge dating as far back as his Tottenham Hotspur days.

Why Jose Mourinho is thought to be willing to part with Oscar in the process is the confusing part.
