Agent Chamakh! How ex-Arsenal striker helped save Gunners season by beating Everton

Crystal Palace forward starred as they stunned Everton to tip the top four race back in the favour of Arsenal.

Arsenal were hoping for an Everton slip up over the remaining Premier League matches, but not many will have seen their home defeat to Crystal Palace coming.

Usually unbeatable at Goodison Park, the ground where they beat Arsenal 3-0 in their last match there, Roberto Martinez' side slipped to an uncharacteristic 3-2 defeat.

Key to their victory was a player discarded by the Gunners last season, none other than much-criticised 'flop' Marouane Chamakh.

Beyond his first six months, the Moroccan disappointed at Arsenal, but has reinvented himself since joining Crystal Palace on a free transfer last summer, even despite his poor goal return of five in 24 Premier League starts.

Against Everton last night Chamakh showed just what else he brings and why he fits Crystal Palace under Tony Pulis perfectly, excelling in a withdrawn forward role behind Cameron Jerome.

The striker had a hand in Jason Puncheon's opening goal, and was lively throughout as he posed challenges for Everton's backline.

His aerial prowess shone through and while he won just one tackle, he attempted four, showing he was not afraid to push the opposition and close them down.

The win for Palace now leaves Arsenal in control of their own destiny in the chase to qualify for the Champions League, with a more favourable title run-in.
