Transfer Bin: Arsenal star Koscielny to Chelsea, United

Laurent Koscielny

Chelsea and Manchester United have both reportedly made contact with Arsenal star Laurent Koscielny's agent.

France Football Magazine is the culprit of the latest edition of HITC’s transfer bin, following the reported news that both Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly been in touch with Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny’s agent.

There are plenty of reasons why a deal taking the Frenchman away from North London is unlikely, starting with the fact that he’s one of Arsene Wenger’s most important players, making him extremely determined to keep the centre-back ahead of next season.

Koscielny has formed a noteworthy relationship with German Per Mertesacker in the heart of Arsenal’s defence, with both of them proving difficult to get the better of, especially in the first half of the season.

The idea that Chelsea could be interested in him is doubtful considering they have one of France’s most talented players in Kurt Zouma due to return from a loan deal with Ligue One side Saint-Etienne at the end of this season.

Zouma is someone that Jose Mourinho could build his defence around next season alongside Gary Cahill, John Terry and David Luiz if he decides to move the Brazilian back into his defence.

The Manchester United link is easier to understand considering the departure of Nemanja Vidic at the end of the season and the possibility that David Moyes may also lose the services of Rio Ferdinand.

However, United won’t be a Champions League side, questioning the need for Koscielny to jump into a move up north and they are well stocked in terms of defensive reserves; Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling to name just three players.

What could change that is if Arsenal are beaten to a top four place by Everton for the first time in Arsene Wenger’s time in charge of the club.

However, even then with the defensive reserves at United, there’s no guarantee that Koscielny would walk straight into the first team, leaving the player questioning the logic behind an Old Trafford move.

Then there’s the Robin Van Persie deal, which Wenger was heavily criticised for because it meant selling to a direct rival who could hurt Arsenal. It would be an amazing turn of events if Wenger decided to sell to United again so soon after that deal.

Rubbish Rating: Can’t see it happening with Zouma at Chelsea and the players already at United, equipped with the fact Wenger has only just sold Robin Van Persie to United.
