Manchester United join race for Juan Iturbe - Three questions and reaction

Manchester United have reportedly been looking at signing winger Juan Manuel Iturbe, who is on loan at Verona from Porto.

United boss David Moyes will need to deliver on the transfer front this summer after a disappointing first season in charge at Old Trafford, with many areas of the team needing strengthening at the end of the campaign.

One of the areas Moyes is reportedly looking to add new talent to is on the flanks, where United have been short of true quality for some time, as Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have flattered to deceive too often.

As a result, it seems the Red Devils are interested in bringing Iturbe to the club, having watched the Argentine score six goals and contribute three assists for Verona this season, who have the forward dubbed as 'the next Lionel Messi' on loan for the season from Porto.

But his impressive displays have attracted interest from the likes of Roma and Real Madrid to name just two, and with United's interest now reported, here are three questions posed by the revelation...

Does this push Nani closer to the exit?

Portuguese winger Nani has been on the fringes of the first team this season, and looks to be heading for the exit at the end of the season. He's currently behind the likes of Valencia, Young, Adnan Januzaj and Juan Mata in the pecking order, and the potential addition of Iturbe would surely signal the end for the former Sporting Lisbon man.

Could a move for Iturbe stunt Adnan Januzaj's development?

United have a star on their hands in Januzaj, and despite the winger being only 19, he still needs to be given regular football - but Iturbe needs the same, given that he's 20. Given that Roma would be eyeing up Iturbe as a starter, United would need to figure out how to manage Januzaj and Iturbe without holding either player back.

Is Iturbe simply a backup plan for Marco Reus?

United have been strongly linked with a £35m swoop for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, and whilst some say that the deal could go through this summer, it still seems unlikely. With that in mind, the interest in Iturbe may simply be to consider other options should their pursuit of the German international fail - which could set them back, with other teams seeing Iturbe as more of a priority.

Here are how some United fans reacted to the rumours on Twitter...
