Liverpool plot sensational Juan Cuadrado swoop: Three questions and reaction

Liverpool have been linked with an impressive swoop for Juan Cuadrado of Fiorentina.

Liverpool have become the latest club linked with dazzling Fiorentina star Juan Cuadrado.

The Colombian has been touted as a target for both Arsenal and Manchester United in recent weeks and months, but The Star last night claimed it is Liverpool 'leading the race'.

They reported: "Sources close to the player insist the Premier League is his preferred destination, and that Liverpool are currently leading the way to sign him."

Cuadrado has a total of 11 goals and eight assists for Fiorentina this season, capable of playing on both the left or right wing, and even as a wing back.

Interest from the Reds poses questions, here are three:

Would his signing mean Konoplyanka is off the table?

Liverpool will land increased transfer funds from qualifying for the Champions League, but will they really spend in the region of £40 million on two wingers? That's roughly what it would cost to acquire Cuadrado and Yevhen Konoplyanka, the top target they attempted to sign in January, who is still keen on a move. Liverpool may be hedging their bets by weighing up Cuadrado, but they may have to choose between one of the two.

Do Liverpool have the negotiating nous to pull it off, considering his co-ownership?

When Liverpool attempted to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka, having failed to bring in Mohamed Salah, their negotiating team were criticised by many. Now this deal for Cuadrado is more complicated than either, owing to the fact he is currently co-owned by two clubs, Fiorentina and Udinese. With rivals clubs in the mix, and Juventus also linked, the deal could be a complex one for Liverpool to seal.

Could it help Luis Suarez stay at the club?

Another South American to add to the mix at Liverpool will surely help star player Luis Suarez feel even more at home. The Colombian international will join the Uruguayan, and two Brazilians in Lucas and Coutinho. He could become the first of many, and even convince another reported target, fellow Colombian Luis Muriel, to sign on with Liverpool.

Here's how a couple of excited Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to the rumour:
