John Aldridge praised Gerrard's leadership skills
Aldridge referred heavily to Gerrard’s post-match team talk following Liverpool’s crucial 3-2 win over Manchester City on Sunday, and praised the Liverpool skipper for his role in the win.
He wrote in his Liverpool Echo column: “Steven was brilliant on Sunday. Absolutely brilliant.
“Having Gerrard is like having another manager on the pitch.
“That helps the other players so much and it has been great to see and hear how much they all want to win this for him.
“If ever one player deserves to add the Premier League title to their collection, then it’s Steven Gerrard.”
A lot was made of Gerrard’s emotional team talk after the game when he urged his side to go to Norwich City in the exactly the same manner as they did against City. Subsequently, the Liverpool captain has been quoted comparing the magnitude of trip to Carrow Road to the Champions League final meetings he has experienced against AC Milan.
From the rhetoric that has come out of both the players and manager Brendan Rodgers - that Liverpool’s focus is just on the next game - the captain was seemingly singing from the same hymn sheet as his boss.
He has acknowledged the position the side is in and the opportunity they have to lift the league title but wanted to move the focus quickly on to Norwich City, and that their result against Manchester City no longer matters.
Who knows? Maybe they will be qualities he will demonstrate in the dugout one day.
