Rumours in the European media have been rife over the future of Paris Saint-Germain defender Alex, who has been linked with a switch to AC Milan of late.
Manchester United were even mentioned in some quarters as potential suitors for the Brazilian centre-half, but the ex-Chelsea stalwart has clarified his plans.
Despite rumblings he could be ready to leave the Parc des Princes this summer, the South American defender has stated that he is close to agreeing a contract extension with the Ligue 1 leaders.
“I am very happy in Paris and it is almost certain that I will sign a new contract,” the 31-year-old told Globoesporte.
“I think I will extend my contract by one year within the next two weeks.”
Alex has played 27 times in Ligue 1 this term and seven in the Champions League for Laurent Blanc’s men.
The Brazilian spent eight years on Chelsea’s books before leaving in 2012.
