Everton's quest to break into the top four took a huge knock tonight as they were beaten 3-2 by Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.
The Toffees went into the game just a point behind Arsenal after the Gunners saw off West Ham on Tuesday night, leaving Everton with the chance to jump back into fourth place with a win over Crystal Palace tonight - but the night didn't go to plan, as Tony Pulis' men left Merseyside with all three points.
The Eagles have been in great form of late and it showed as Jason Puncheon continued his purple patch with yet another goal, putting Pulis' side in front in the first half. Many expected a response from Roberto Martinez's side, but Scott Dann doubled Palace's lead to put a clear gap between the two teams.
Steven Naismith did get Everton back into the game after an hour, but Cameron Jerome restored Palace's two goal lead to stun the Toffees faithful once again. A late Kevin Mirallas goal did set up a tense finale, but it wasn't enough to get Everton level, leaving them still behind Arsenal with four games to play.
Toffees fans were disappointed with a lacklustre performance on the night, with many questioning Martinez's decision to drop James McCarthy from the starting line-up. There is still time to get back into the Champions League places, but the feeling amongst Everton fans is that they may have missed their chance.
John Stones could quite easily become the best centre half I've ever seen play for Everton, he is some player that lad. #EFC— Liam Jones (@liamjefc) April 16, 2014

Hopefully that gives us extra motivation to absolutely annihilate Man Utd on Sunday #EFC— Chris Youds (@ChrisYouds) April 16, 2014
Gutted about the result, need someone to does us a favour, tonight highlights how good a play McCarthy is, Sundays game has become huge #EFC— Joseph Dunn (@Joseph_Dunn) April 16, 2014
Team was unbalanced from the start with three wingers on the pitch and to drop McCarthy who has been player of the season is ridiculous #EFC— Michael Thomson (@mthomson25) April 16, 2014
