Arias burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old in his native Colombia with La Equidad, where his impressive displays earned him a move to Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. However, he made just seven first team appearances for the club, spending the majority of his time in the B team before his summer switch to PSV Eindhoven.
The Dutch club landed the young right back in a double deal involving midfielder Stijn Schaars, with the duo arriving at the Philips Stadion for €1.6m, and despite Schaars being an experienced head with plenty of years behind him, it's Arias who has been impressing under Phillip Cocu.
One of the teams reportedly eyeing up a move for the 22-year-old is Manchester United, with Red Devils boss David Moyes needing to conduct a full scale overhaul of his squad at Old Trafford. One of the areas of concern is in defence, where they have seen a number of players feature at right back as Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Rafael have all had stints there without nailing down the position.
It's therefore no surprise to see them linked with a swoop for Arias, and agent Javier Piquer admitted that there is interest in his client, who has a €15m release clause, but also that La Liga teams such as Valencia are tracking the Colombian international.
"He played well, very well, in his first season with PSV. There are also many interested teams in Spain, I can confirm that. Valencia? Rumors on Valencia are in the public domain, there is nothing more to add, but there is also another team of great depth in La Liga concerned," said Piquer.
