Brendan Rodgers led heartfelt tributes to the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives at the Hillsborough disaster earlier today. Rodgers paid tribute to the club’s supporters, with one of the best lines from his speech simply stating: “You matter to us every day, and that inspires us to play.”

Before the service, Rodgers revealed his honour at being asked to give a reading at the Hillsborough memorial service. The Liverpool boss said he didn’t hesitate to agree when he was asked to speak before a packed Anfield.

“I feel very privileged. I came into the city in 2012 and knew obviously a bit of the background about what was going on, but over the time I have been here it becomes your life,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez also spoke at the ceremony, paying tribute to the fight which has followed the disaster to ensure fairness and to achieve what’s right in the memory of those who died.

“What happened after wasn't right or fair either. To have to fight for the good name of the ones you lost was appalling but as my chairman (Bill Kenwright) said a year ago, the authorities took on the wrong city if they thought they were going to get away with that,” said the Spaniard.

Everton manager Martinez has laughed off speculation that Ross Barkley could be heading for Anfield at the end of the season. Liverpool have been reported as one of the clubs interested in the Everton youngster.

“In terms of the speculation, we already turned down a £50million bid from (Manchester) United so we're not going to take £38million from Liverpool. It's quite enjoyable to speak about speculation, I think it shows how well our players are doing,” Martinez told the press.

Liverpool striker Iago Aspas has revealed the secret behind the club’s progress so far this season. In an interview with IBTimes, the Spanish forward replied ‘Luis Suarez’ when he asked what the team’s secret was at the moment.

TalkSport has suggested Liverpool will have to find another back up to Simon Mignolet this summer after Guillermo Ochoa hinted that he wants to stay in France. The 28-year-old Mexican reportedly has his heart set on a move to Marseille from current side Ajaccio.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has challenged Liverpool to over come the final hurdle in their Premier League title pursuit. The experienced shot stopper suggests Chelsea are lurking and ready to take advantage of any Liverpool slip up.

“Let’s see how they will cope when it comes to the last hurdle. They will have to jump over it. They have been doing remarkably well, but we are still around,” he’s quoted by the Daily Mail.

Dietmar Hamann has challenged Liverpool star Luis Suarez to cut out what he calls play-acting. The former Reds midfielder says the striker doesn’t do himself any favours when he tries to win set pieces for the side.

“His antics don’t do him any favours - I don’t agree with his antics. He’s a fantastic player but, unless someone sends him off for play-acting, [he won’t stop]” the German told talkSPORT.
