Arsenal got a long overdue win on their ledger thanks to an Emirates Stadium victory over West Ham United on Tuesday, April 15.
Arsenal player ratings…
Perhaps is finest moment in the game came when he didn't take an on-pitch selfie. The last time he did so, Arsenal went on a four game streak without a win (two draws, two losses).
Bacary Sagna - 7.5
Frequently on the ball and retained possession well. He was more often than not in the opponent's half than his own, yet did not neglect his defensive duties.
Per Mertesacker - 8
Aerially-strong and positionally-sound, Per put in a good shift. Between himself and Koscielny, Andy Carroll was largely contained.
Not as exceptional as his defensive team-mates.
Thomas Vermaelen - 8
Under-used due to the partnership of primary duo Per and Laurent Koscielny, but Thomas Vermaelen played the full-back's role well, mirroring Sagna's movements, completing 100% of his tackling attempts while also proving capable in the air.
Mikel Arteta - 8
Attempted many passes, completing the lion's share of them. Kept things ticking over in the heart of midfield with tackles, interceptions, clearances while also contributing going forward. Top performance.
Tomas Rosicky - 6.5
Unspectacular in the pass. Made way for Aaron Ramsey in the second half.
Kim Kallstrom - 7.5
Was on the ball even more than Arteta and showed there is potential to be exposed. Wenger brought him in injured, but had he been fit from January could he have had a Nemanja Matic impact? He didn't tonight, though.
Santi Cazorla - 7.5
Fine pass retention rate and a threat in the attacking zones.
Lukas Podolski - 9
Scorer of two of Arsenal's three goals - his chance conversion rates are exceptional. Surely he must be given more chances to thrive.
Olivier Giroud - 7.5
Wasteful for much of the first half but did eventually get his goal through persistence.
